In-Game Reputation
« on: August 19, 2010, 11:03:48 PM »
Reputation is now active, given out by DMs for specific organizations. Reputation is for public organizations only.

There will be a post on the wiki before long, on a general guideline of how much reputation one might need to be respected or feared, etc. It is different than the fame some of you have come to expect, with much lower thresholds and numbers given, but similar in most other ways.
(Note that it is not yet visible IG)

In the meantime!
*Members of non-human races, and any public organization, will have starting reputation within that faction.
*In order to get that reputation within your organization, you must post your characters' name within the appropriate thread in your organization's forum.
*If you are in a secret organization, there is no reputation listed, because we're all sure you don't want anyone to know who might be on your list.
*You can earn both positive and negative reputation within your organizations, and in all other public organizations you are not part of, through interactions in game and via the forums. Some of you already have.

Note that you WILL NOT receive ANY reputation if you enter an organization with a disguised name.
This is non-negotiable, as it is impossible for DMs to keep track of in any meaningful way, and will confuse other players.

What exactly will the new reputation system do in the game? Is it the basis to decide whether or not a player grow in a faction? For instance from an acolyte to a curate? Or from a noble retainer to something higher?

It will have an effect on your ability to advance in the faction, yes. It will also allow you access to certain areas, certain merchants, and certain conversations, if your reputation is high enough.

It will also cause you to be shunned by certain merchants, certain areas made off limits, and even cause some NPC's to go hostile on you if your reputation is in the negatives enough.
A man may be measured in accordance with those who would call him their enemy, for that which he opposes speaks to his character.

Where can you view this?

It will be viewable for players in the future, currently that aspect is in development. Your faction DM may be able to confirm yours while in game it you ask nicely :)

This is good to know, I have been wondering what Tariah's reputation was with a few factions. >_>

It costs four hundred thousand dollars to fire this weapon... for twelve seconds. Some people think they can outsmart me. Maybe, *sniff* maybe. I've yet to meet one that can outsmart boolet."
