Myths of Atalan Version 5: Official Announcement
« on: March 04, 2021, 03:01:50 PM »
Myths of Atalan is returning for our fifth version, Myths of Atalan 5: The ReMythaning.

We are going forward with quite a small DM Staff, Me, and few others all of which have limiting schedules. We may not be committing to multiple events a week or even month. We are putting the server out again because we miss it, and we have stories we'd like to tell. You're welcome to be here, and come along for the ride, but be aware we are doing this as much for ourselves as the greater community. We'll take suggestions, and look into complaints, but somethings are just going to be the way they are.

I'm sure there are a lot of things that could be mentioned here, but one that most often comes up in my experience, is grinding. You're welcome to do it, if that's your play style have at it. As long as you RP, and aren't breaking any rules, play as you like to play. That being said, if you get to max level in three weeks, then complain that there is no more content or story lines that take your power into account, well, that's on you. I don't really have an eloquent wrap up to this post so...

1) The main focus of the server is to provide a place to tell stories, the small but dedicated staff is here first to have fun as a team, and hopefully pass that on to you. You as players are more than welcome to join us; the more the merrier!
We do our best to be fair to all, and we generally love to RP with everyone whether as players or DMs.
However, those who bash staff or always complain are not welcome and will be asked to leave.

2) We will be attempting to focus DM events in the town of Amber Bay primarily, so all players have the potential to get involved as much as is possible.
Eventually more events may spread out to various other areas & cities depending on the player population.

3) We are time jumping again, this time quite a long one, more than five hundred years have passed on the ever shifting continent of Eramere, and while somethings remain the same, much has changed.

4) In accordance with #3, I am in the process of archiving the forums for a new start. Some topics will remain, some of the archives will be visible to various people, and some archives will not. If there was a specific post you were/are looking for you can PM me and I can take a look for it.

5) We are not setting a hard date right at this moment to avoid biting off more than we can chew, but I don’t expect it to be too long before we have an update in that regard.

6) In the meantime the forums are open! Feel free to drop your inquiries, start a research thread or pop into the RP forums, whether it be the rumor mill, one of the taverns or your characters journal.

7) Most of all, I’d like to thank anyone who takes the time to enjoy the world we’ve built, running these servers has brought me and the other staff members countless hours of entertainment over the 10 plus years we’ve been around as a community, and we appreciate everything you’ve all brought along. Now before I start to sound sappy I’ll get to updating you on what the teams are working on and what you can expect in the version to come!

Updates in other areas:

Dev Team
We have a dynamic crafting, and loot system, and a number of unique prestige classes, the details of which are available on the Wiki. We also have a fully custom enchanting system that we are quite proud of. Those dedicated and up to the task will see themselves rewarded with some of the best equipment available on Myths of Atalan.

There are a number of class changes, as well as the addition of the brand new Dragonfire Adept base class. You can check out the details on the Wiki.

We are also looking to expand the number of quests that can be done, to ensure there are things to keep players engaged beyond the crafting system and DM events.

Mapping Team
Mappers are hard at work making the Town of Amber Bay a vibrant hub, with a small town feel. Explore new areas like the Sorrow Woods, and delve into the depths of Maer'vanim, a lost Syl'vae city, overrun with mysterious and terrible aberrations from the dark depths of the world. With the planned future expansion of the Ruins of Atalan, and much more on the horizon.

Lore Team
Time marches on in Eramere, and five hundred years have passed since we have last visited the continent. Those years were filled with strife, conquest, and rebellion. Soon you'll be able to read on the Wiki about the War of Ashes, and the Halmorian invasion that came after. The world still struggles to come to terms with the consequences of the destruction of the Temple of the Overseers in High reaches, and the subsequent muting of the Overseers. The loss of Clerics has been felt by everyone, but no attempt to renew them has been successful whether because it is no longer possible or if those trying lacked the mettle is unknown.

We’re mostly done with the core writing, and will be populating the appropriate wiki and forum entries as the weeks go on.

The DM Team/Other Stuff
As noted elsewhere already, we will be removing the current restrictions on taking a native race.
You can still submit a bio for one of those races to get full access to their home forum, their in game store, and starting reputation though. There is also now the option to play Half/elves, if you’d like your character to have been raised in the elven tradition and would like access to the Syl’vae forums just shoot us a request.

For PrCs, at least 90% of them no longer require being unlocked by a DM.

"Fire is a hazard, says the coward. Fire is a tool, says the fool. I say fire is a weapon, a friend, a state of mind, and that the bold man and the craven burn just as fast."

"People ask, why the red suit? It's so the bad guys cant see me bleed, oh man, he should have wore his brown pants!"
